Visitors to this year’s Allerton Project Family Day Out had the opportunity to meet Midlands pet portrait artist Penny Richardson. They discovered the beautiful artwork she creates for animal lovers across the UK.

The Allerton Project at Loddington provides the perfect backdrop for a family day celebrating farming, wildlife and the natural world. The event brings together local businesses, conservation organisations and artisans, creating a wonderful atmosphere for families to explore and enjoy. The Allerton Project is renowned for its work in sustainable farming and environmental education. It welcomes visitors of all ages throughout the year.
Penny was delighted to exhibit a selection of her original pet portraits at the Open Day. This gave visitors the chance to see first-hand the detail, character and personality captured within each painting. Working from clients’ photographs, Penny creates bespoke portraits of beloved pets in a variety of mediums. This includes oils, gouache watercolour and coloured pencil.
Throughout the day, many visitors stopped to chat about their own treasured companions. They shared there stories of dogs, cats, horses and other much-loved animals. Seeing original artwork in person often helps people appreciate the craftsmanship involved in creating a hand-painted portrait. This can inspire ideas for meaningful gifts and lasting keepsakes.
