Animal & Cattle Paintings

Welcome to my collection of Animal & Cattle Paintings, where I celebrate the beauty, strength, and personality of farm animals through fine art.
I’m Penny Richardson, an artist based in Forfar, Angus, Scotland, specialising in animal portrait commissions across the UK. From majestic bulls to gentle cows in their rural landscapes, I capture the unique spirit of every subject in oil, acrylic, or mixed media.

The Blaston Bull, Leicestershire
Commissioned by a lady at the Blaston Agricultural Show as a gift to a retiring member of the society. The portrait captures the proud stance and character of the bull, celebrating its connection to the farming community.

About My Work

Cattle hold a special place in British countryside life. Their calm presence and striking character make them wonderful subjects for portraiture. Whether it’s a cherished animal, a show champion, or a commission for interior design, my paintings aim to reflect not only the animal’s form but its story.

Each painting begins with reference photographs and discussions with my client — understanding the animal’s personality, preferred setting, and any meaningful details you’d like included. I then develop a composition that blends realism with atmosphere, creating a timeless piece to treasure.

Somerset Cow

The Somerset Cow
Created for an interior design project in Somerset, this painting was commissioned for a local pub. The client requested that King Alfred’s Tower appear in the background — a meaningful local landmark that links the animal to its landscape.
