Cat Painting from Smeeth in Kent.
That’s first class. We particularly like the way you have caught her expression. The opening up slightly of the eyes works well. The inclusion of the tail hanging down past the window sill is a nice touch. We are very happy with the portrait.
As regards framing could you arrange that for us please. We would like a thin mount. This ensures the entire picture does not become too large. We are running out of wall space. We would also prefer a thin gold coloured frame to match the others.
Many thanks, Regards,

Hi Penny,
We just received the painting today and we are both absolutely delighted with it. It really captures him perfectly and the framing is wonderful. We will be presenting it to my mother-in-law when she returns from her holiday next week – we’re sure she will love it. Thank you once again for everything.

Cat Painting commissioned from Lincolnshire
Hi Penny
A message to say thank you so very much for the most brilliant painting of my 5 cats.
Chris presented it to me yesterday and I am absolutely thrilled with it. You have captured their lovely characters perfectly. I really appreciate all your hard work in putting this together with Chris.
I could not have had a better birthday present.
It has taken pride of place in our living room. We will cherish it for many years to come. Many thanks once again!
Kind regards,
Tracy

Capturing Your Cat’s Character: The Joy of Cat Portraits from Photos
Every cat has a story to tell. Their soft purrs are enchanting. The mischievous glint in their eyes captivates me. The elegant curl of their tail is a sight to behold. These are the moments I live for as a portrait artist. For many years, people have trusted me to bring their feline companions to life with hand-painted pet portraits. I’ve painted cats across the UK from the village of Empingham to Harrogate. I’ve also worked from Oakham to Ripon. This work has sometimes taken me beyond the UK, and it has been an honour.
When a client commissions a cat portrait from me, it begins with a photo—or several. Perhaps you don’t have the perfect shot; that’s fine. If you’re local I can help by taking photographs myself.
Once I have the reference images, I set to work in gouache watercolour. I also work in other media for different pets and portraits. With a delicate brush and an eye for personality, I aim to capture more than just fur patterns and whiskers. I want to reveal the essence. It could be that special tilt of the head. Perhaps it’s the quiet dignity of a cat’s gaze. It might be the playful flash of their tail.
Once the painting is finished, many owners choose bespoke framing to give their artwork the perfect finishing touch. Whether you’d like something understated or more decorative, the frame helps the portrait sit beautifully on your wall.
Why People Love These Portraits
Over the years I’ve received some lovely messages:
- “We just received the painting today and we are both absolutely delighted with it. It really captures him perfectly…”
- “I was blown away (i.e. in tears!) at how beautifully you had captured her and how life-like it was.”
It’s incredibly fulfilling to give someone a portrait that becomes part of their home, a memory they’ll treasure forever.
How to Commission Your Cat Portrait
If you’re interested:
- Contact me to discuss your cat’s portrait.
- Pay a small deposit to secure the commission.
- Send me your favourite photographs—or we arrange a photoshoot if you’re nearby.
- I paint the portrait in gouache watercolour, edit and share a proof.
- Once you’re happy, I finish and frame it (if required), and arrange delivery to you.
