Info about the White Rhino

The white rhino is also known as the square-lipped rhino and there are two subspecies, the southern and northern.

The northern white rhino is critically endangered and possibly extinct in the wild. Their near extinction is due to decades of rampant poaching for rhino horn.

White rhinos have two horns on the end of their nose. The front horn is much larger than the inner horn. Rhinos are known for their distinct ‘prehistoric’, solid look, being one of the oldest land mammal species in the world.

Rhinos tend to wallow in the mud, which serves as a cooling technique and effective protection from the sun and also insect repellent.

There are two African species of rhino, the white and the black. The white rhino being the larger of the two, it has a bigger head, due to the muscles that support its neck. The white rhino feeds from the ground with its head lowered for much of the day. the colour of their skin is grey.

There is no difference in the skin colour of white and black rhinos, despite their names.

I have been a Pet Artist painting quality pet portraits for over 30 years. Along with my husband John we have an Art Gallery & also a Bespoke Picture Framing Service in Exton in Rutland, the smallest county in the United Kingdom.

I was born in Harrogate in North Yorkshire and started my career as a Pet Artist painting Pet Portraits on my father's Farm, at Cold Overton near Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire, after leaving Loughborough Art College in 1984.

I have a long history of artists in my family line. My mother studied at the Harrogate School of Art. In the second World War she was a red cross nurse and she sketched and painted many scenes from that era and time depicting the life and activities of ordinary people at their workplace i.e. nursing, fire service, trams and dockyard scenes etc.

I love painting pet portraits & I am very passionate about my work. My aim is to achieve the best quality pet portraits that have a realistic likeness to your animal. I have been commissioned from all over the UK and many commissions abroad. I am very happy to take on international commissions and have recently shipped four paintings to Alaska.
I was once commissioned by Sir Henry Tate to paint the Cottesmore Hunt opening meet at Preston Lodge. I am also an accomplished architectural, landscape and floral painter.

If you like my style of work and would be interested in a commission, please contact me on 07884 198748, or via the online contact form.
