About Artist Penny Richardson

Penny Richardson has built a reputation for capturing the beauty and spirit of her subjects — from beloved family pets to evocative English landscapes. Working from her studio in the Midlands, Penny creates timeless paintings that reflect both her technical skill and her deep emotional connection to the countryside around her.

Having studied art from a young age, Penny’s passion for painting has evolved into a full-time career spanning several decades. Her work includes pet portraits, horse paintings, landscapes, and architectural commissions, each produced with meticulous attention to detail and a genuine love of her craft. Whether she’s recreating the gentle expression of a dog, the majesty of a horse, or the tranquillity of the countryside, Penny’s paintings are instantly recognisable for their warmth, realism and sensitivity.

Although based in the Midlands, Penny works with clients all over the UK and beyond, producing bespoke commissions that often become treasured family heirlooms. Every painting begins with a personal consultation — either in person or via photographs — ensuring that she captures the personality and character of each subject perfectly. Her husband John Richardson often assists with photography and logistics, allowing Penny to focus entirely on her creative process.

Her work has been featured in numerous exhibitions and publications, including a six-page article in Rutland Pride Magazine (December 2022), which celebrated her contribution to the local art scene. Penny has also exhibited across Rutland, Leicestershire, and Lincolnshire, and her paintings hang in homes throughout the UK and overseas.

As an artist who truly values connection, Penny loves working closely with her clients. Many return time and again — commissioning portraits of new pets or local scenes that hold special meaning. Each commission is painted using professional-grade materials to ensure longevity and a lasting vibrancy of colour.
